Attabad Lake is located in Gojal Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. The lake was created in January 2010 after a massive landslide blocked the Hunza River, causing the river to back up and form the lake.
The landslide resulted in the displacement of thousands of people from the surrounding area and significant economic losses, as the Karakoram Highway, the main transport route between Pakistan and China, was also blocked. In the following years, the Pakistani government and local communities worked together to construct a dam and a spillway to manage the water level and provide safe passage for the road and communities downstream.
The Attabad Lake has now become a major tourist attraction, attracting visitors from around the world to enjoy its stunning scenery and water sports activities. The lake also supports a thriving fishing industry, providing livelihoods for local communities.
In addition to its beauty and economic benefits, the Attabad Lake has also brought new challenges, such as erosion and sedimentation, that the local communities and government are working to address. Despite these challenges, the Attabad Lake remains an important symbol of resilience and resourcefulness in the face of natural disaster
